| The Fourth Floor is the top storey of Hotspur House in central Manchester. Ultimate Holding Company, Manchester Municipal Design Corporation and Textbook Studio operate their practices out of the building, and use the 4th Floor as a collaborative space. It is not only a physical space, but also an idea and an ethos. It is a nurturing environment where Hotspur House's resident creatives can work together. The first communal act has been the renovation of the floor itself, and through this a desire to work on other projects has been provoked.
The Fourth Floor collaborators operate at the junction of art, design, education, social engagement and social change as an artist-led, design powered activist consultancy, think tank and rapid response unit.
We are flexible, proactive & reactive, often working in the fleeting cracks of opportunity that seem prevalent in these times of economic strife. Much of our previous work has operated below the radar, but with the changes in the way services are traditionally delivered we see an opportunity for our bottom-up approach to take grassroots responses and deliver truly beneficial ideas. |
